Our three days through The Yukon is just driving 642 miles
on the Alaska Highway into British Columbia.
We returned to the Alaska Highway at Tok, Alaska. This is the 2nd road that leads
out and into Alaska. Or you can call it
the first road. Let’s just say it’s the
Southwestern route, where the Top of the World highway is the Northwest route. Remember, there are only two roads going into
or out of Alaska.
We will be driving 385 miles of the Alaska Highway (from
Tok to Whitehorse) that we skipped on the way in when we left the highway at
Whitehorse to go to Dawson City. So, now
we can say that we traveled the whole 1,422 miles of the Alaska Highway!
We made a stop at the US – Canadian border to take
pictures. This is called the
International Border so there are monuments there. There is a bench with a line through it so
you can sit in two countries at the same time.
Good-bye Alaska
Hello Yukon
Sitting in the US and Canada at the same time.
Standing in the US and Canada at the same time.
Another awesome thing is that you can look up the hill and
you can actually see a line cut through brush and trees showing the
border. On the other side, down the hill
is the same thing.
We will not be exploring any places during our brief trip
into The Yukon. Our first stop will be Destruction Bay, where we stay at a nice, cute & peaceful RV park called Cottonwood
RV Park. The drive there was very
picturesque with fields of purple flowers; Fireweed. This is a small park that overlooks Kluane
Lake.
Entrance into Cottonwood RV Park
On our way to the next stop we stopped at Haines Junction
for gas. Next to the gas station was a
view point with a beautiful view of the Kluane Mountain Range.
Our 2nd stop – a return visit to Whitehorse, and
our last stop – another return visit to Watson Lake, are all overnight stops to
break up the 642 miles we have to travel to get to British Columbia. This part of the Alaska Highway actually hugs
the border of The Yukon and British Columbia.
Tomorrow we leave the Alaska Highway and head south into
British Columbia. Nineteen days from
HOME!
